Whether your wedding cake is tiered or stacked, you can’t serve it until the cake is completely disassembled. This is not a difficult job to do, because each tier is well delimitated and separated through the metallic support. Remove the support carefully and pull it out of the cake. Maybe the pillars can be saved, if the couple wants to keep them for the memory.
If your cake is stacked, you could use a fish slice or spatula to create a lever between the tiers. If you think you can manage, remove the doweling by lifting up the tiers carefully and each one at a time. But for more safety, you can remove them when you will eventually cut the cake.
When we cut the wedding cake must be attentive to the icing or fondant topper. If we remove them before we cut the cake each plate will contain first a piece of cake and a piece of the topper. If we won’t remove the topping, some slices may have only a small piece of cake and a big piece of icing or fondant. This is something that the bride and the groom must think about and decide before the official cutting of the cake. Concerning the shape of the slices, the more popular shapes are the rectangular ones. If you are sending a couple of slices to some guest’s home, make sure that the slice will fit the special boxes you bought.

Wedding cake servers can be very artistic if you want it. For example a couple may want to engrave their names on the cake server or knife. This way you’ll be gathering wedding symbols for you to use on your 50th wedding anniversary! But it’s a very long way to get there, that’s why you need to focus now on your preferences and choose the best serving cake you could have.
