Wedding Cakes
In most of the cases, choosing the wedding cake is the bride’s duty. The explanation for this may be the fact that more women have a passion for sweets than men. We might be inclined to believe that the cake tradition has always been so popular. In fact, this custom became typical of any wedding since the 19th century. At that time there was just a single tiered plum cake. Before this, people would just serve a sweet pie at the wedding. This pie contained a ring, usually made of glass. They believed that the woman who found the ring would have been the next to get married.

The color of the cake is usually white, just like the bride’s wedding dress; this is related to purity and the new life the couple starts. But this is no longer a must. Because the brides wear wedding dresses of other colors, the cake’s color changed too. If the bride’s wears purple, why shouldn’t the cake be purple too? If this idea would have seemed too outrageous in the past, today people apply another theory: the wackier an idea is, the more bound to be successful it will be. And this principle doesn’t apply just in case of the color you pick for the cake. Have you ever considered having your favorite video game character on you wedding cake? But how about a natural approach, something like a brown cake with two deer figures on top of it? Even if they look strange, these cakes tell more about the bride and groom personality and hobbies.

When you talk about following the trends, you automatically think about fashion and accessories. Well you can also have a trendy cake for your wedding. For example, in 2009 hexagonal shaped cakes were really appreciated. People opted for cubes and layered hexagons, rather than for the oval and circular designs. The color the trends in 2009 proposed for cakes was pink. Whether the whole cake was pink or only the decorations, this color influenced a lot people’s mentality.

If I were to say something about this year’s trends, it would be about originality. Every bride should think about what defines her personality and let her imagination decide on the shape, the color and the decoration of the wedding cake. The result would be a unique edible piece of art.
