The custom for the bride to wear flowers has its roots in antiquity, when it was believed strongly that the strong-smelling herbs and flavors will stop and will remove evil spirits, misfortune and disease, thus being very popular garlic and chives. In Roman times, this practice spread, the bride and groom wearing flower garlands signifying new life and hope for fertility. The bouquet symbolizes a blossoming woman .
