Long Life Wedding Cakes




When we say wedding reception meal, our minds fly instantly to the big moment of the evening when the wedding cake will make its grandiose entrance. The wedding cakes can indeed be the masterpiece in the creation of a baker, since in his work, otherwise a simple cake, he can insert all the elements of an original decoration to make it look exquisite, and turn it into the big surprise of the evening. Before deciding on what kind of cake you would like for your wedding party, it is better to know some details about the significance and traditions that lie behind the wedding cake. Generally it is better for everyone to know the events that set the bases of a thing, because in this way one can go to the essence of that thing and understand it better.

The wedding cake has been known to exist in the history since the Roman times and back then it was merely a dry biscuit made of wheat to symbolize fertility and long life. It used to be also shared by both bride and the groom.  Some traditions required that the wedding cake would be sprinkled over the bride’s head signifying good luck. It was much later, during the Victorian era, that the tiered wedding cake made its royal appearance. Its color was white to synchronize with the bride’s wedding gown, and the tiers to match the pieces that constituted the design of bride’s wedding dress.

Both of them are holding the knife to slice the cake, and feed each other with it. This gestures bear also a strong symbolism; it is about the commitment they share into the future marriage and the promise to support each other throughout their married time.

In the long process of finding the perfect wedding cake for your party, some couples may favor the long life wedding cake. But what exactly is a long life cake? Is the cake that a couple would like to keep it as in remembrance of the day that joined them together in the holy marriage? No, it would be great if there was such a thing. Actually a long life cake is a cake that bakers make using an ingredient that allows baked products to have a shelf-life of 3 to 9 months.

The thing is that this ingredient is not a preservative, but an additive to be used while baking cakes, muffins that can actually increase the moistens of the finished product, give a softer texture and reduce crumbliness. The long life wedding cake can also be prepared within a whole range of variety and possibilities of decoration, even if not at the same scale as the normal ones, at least at the same taste.
