From monograms representing the initials of their names to brides and groom funny sculptures, having a wedding cake topper is a little detail that could impress very much your guests.

In this article, you will find out how to make your own wedding cake topper. It is something that will capture all your attention for sure because any bride wants something unique for her wedding. Brides always want to impress and to see envy on her friends` face.

First, take a piece of fondant having the size of your first and put it on a flat surface till it becomes soft and smooth. Please use cornstarch or powered sugar in order to prevent the fondant to stick to the flat surface. Secondly, roll out the fondant with a pasta roller in order to obtain a thin and thick enough to dry easily and be sturdy. In the case in which you are using a pasta machine, you should begin with the very thick setting and then increasingly taper to anther thickness. The third step consists of laying the rolled fondant on a surface and cut it into equal strips with a knife or it would be better with a ravioli cutter. It is very important to know from the beginning how long the bows will be because they will determine the lengths of the strips. After you have cut the strips, you must cover them with a sheet of plastic in order to prevent the fondant to dry out.

The, after the three steps mentioned above, you must go to the 4th step. Here, you must fold every strip over in order to realize ‘the ends meeting’. In order to seal, please crimp the ends and put them on a flat baking sheet. You should turn every loop over on its side to be sure that the loops of the bow will maintain the shape. Then, it is very important to line the strips up with spacing. Take a lightweight dowel and put it on the top of the strips by folding over every piece of fondant. Again, the edges must be crimped in order to seal. Now, take the dowel ant let the top of the strips and the all the strips dry very well.

The 5th step means to take a portion of rolled fondant and start to knead it until it becomes smooth. Then, in the same thickness (as you rolled the loops of the bow), you must take the fondant and roll it out. The strips of the bow tails should be made wider than the loops of the bow. Estimate the length of the bow tails (be carefully at the length of your top tier wedding cake), and crinkle them.

After cutting the ends of the bow tails in a ‘V’ shape, and letting them dry very well, you can start to arrange some bow loops in a circle. Take royal icing and place it in the center in order to attach each together. Then, you may place a second layer. Build and layer with bow loops and royal icing until the topper finishes.

The last thing to do: put the fondant bow tails strips under the topper when the loops of the bow are assembled.
