How to make sugar sculptures for your wedding cake

Wedding receptions are always very glamorous and full of surprises events. At these kinds of parties everybody looks elegant and wants to be beautiful. But, of course, in the center of attention will always be the bride and the groom.

At your wedding reception, a very appreciable thing will be a special wedding cake sugar sculpture topper made by the bride. Many guests will envy the original idea of having your own sugar sculpture on the wedding cake. The beautiful and tasty sugar form should really be something special. So, my advice to you is to think twice when choosing a sugar sculpture form. It is necessary to really characterize the theme of your wedding and the reason why you chose to make such a huge and important step in your life…getting married. The rolled fondant is very well known as being good for molding it into different shapes like a sculptor working with the clay.

Now, I will give you some instruction you should follow when making rolled fondant from scratch. The first thing to do is mixing a cup of vegetable shortening and a cup of corn syrup together in a bowl with the help of an electric mixer. Then, stir in a teaspoon of vanilla extract, a ½ teaspoon of salt, and two lbs. of confectioner’s sugar in order to obtain stiff dough. Use the hand in order to knead it. Gradually, add more confectioner’s sugar ad knead if the dough is too sticky. Put the all the composition in a refrigerator and start to create Cake Sculptures from Sugar.

So, choose the shapes you like to put on your wedding cake. Either choose to have a personal and original design, or searching some standard shapes for decorating wedding cakes, such as flowers, moons, and stars.

Then, you can start to mix up the sugar for decorating your wedding cake. If you want a special color your sugar sculpture, I advice you to use gel color and not liquid color. Roll the required amount of sugar paste thin to make sugar sculptures for decoration. Now, you can cover the all surface of the wedding cake with sugar paste and start to decorate with the desired designs. Of course, you can cover the entire wedding cake with icing and add the sugar sculptures later. With a smoother tool you can remove all the marks or finger prints from the sugar paste.

At the final, cut out the design chosen with molds or sharp knives. I advice you to use water or a combination of water and confectioner’s in order to glue the sculpture. Using your fingers, arrange the pieces together and give some minutes to the sculptures to dry.

I hope that everything is clear to you because it is a great idea to create your own sugar sculptures for your own wedding cake. If I were a groom, I will really appreciate the effort of my bride to make her own personalized wedding cake. Just try and you will be very satisfied.

And just how will the guests know that the bride is the one responsible for carving that sugar sculpture. It’s not like you are going to announce at the beginning of the wedding “hi, I’m the bride, I made these sugar carvings here”. It’s best to leaves people which are professionals when it comes to making a wedding cake take care of the appearance as well as taste and composition.
