  1. I have seen sooo many bloggers and planners write articles to Brides telling them to get a small cake and add a sheetcake to save money. All of the decorators I communicate with –do NOT do this. Furst of all it’s just tacky to serve part of your guests off of one cake and then make the rest feel like they are getting something less. But to suggest that it be put on the table with the other cake? Its not a church supper –it’s a wedding and the cake is supposed to be the centerpiece of the reception!

If you’re working on a budget, the best way to do the cake would probably be either a cupcake tower, or to have a *very* small cake – just big enough for the wedding party but still pretty – out and presented. Then have a sheet cake in the back that will serve your guests. Staff can then cut and serve the cake more efficiently and guests tend to appreciate this.

  3. If you cant afford to go to Walmart and pay $130 for a tiered wedding cake, then you have no business having a reception. You should just get married at a courthouse. Cupcakes run as much a wedding cake –they are not cheaper. By the time you rent the stand and put the wrappers on them you have a much in it as a cake.
