In English language, the term blue can also refer to sadness or the feeling of melancholy, from here the often used saying: “She was feeling blue”. This feeling is related to rain and the old Greek mythology:when Zeus was sad, he would make it rain, when he was angry, he would start a storm. Also when a ship lost its captain or other officers during a voyage, the rest of the crew would fly blue flags and wear blue bands until they reached safely home.

In Christian belief, the blue is associated with the Virgin Mary while in India, the god Vishnu, known as the Preserver of the world and having as a symbol, among many others, the water and his avatars, Krishna and Ram are represented as having a blue skin.
In Hinduism, the fifth chakra is blue, also known as Visuddha or the Throat Chakra, linked to the neck, arms, hands and of course, throat. In Mexico, the mourning color is blue, in the old Aztec culture it means sacrifice, different from the meaning used in Iran, where blue, green and blue-green were the symbols for paradise. In the Greek culture, blue necklaces or amulets are worn to ward off the evil eye. In the Chinese culture, blue is associated with east direction, the season of spring and with the woods.

Blue is such a powerful color with so many significances, so it would probably be a great choice as the main color for your wedding cake. Basically, everybody loves blue, more or less, so no need to worry about creating a good impression on your guests with your personal tastes. If you might see the simple blue wedding cakes as being too plain you can always choose for a patterned wedding cake, maintaining blue as the predominant color; you can find online unique wedding cake designs off unimaginable shapes, color combination, sizes and styles. All you have to do is to pick one sample; another option would be to make the wedding cake by your own self.
